(100% is best)

Schwalbe has recently updated their new R line gravel bike tires, which are now known as the Pro versions. In addition to a new construction and compound, an extra tire has been added alongside the G-One R and G-One RS, which is called the G-One RX. The R line now consists of three tires, with the R as the all-round version, RS as the fast semi-slick, and the coarser RX as an option for rougher conditions.

We already tested the 40 mm version with transparent sidewalls of the G-One RX (read our review). We found it to be a perfect addition to the G-One lineup for those who need more tread than the G-One R. This time, we're going to take a look at the 45 mm black sidewall version of the G-One RX. It will provide a first look at the differences between the larger and smaller sizes, as well as sidewall colors.
With the move to larger gravel bike tires in full force, we expect the 45 mm version of the G-One RX to be one of the most popular sizes. If you want to go even bigger, a 50 mm version is also available, with all sizes offered in either black or transparent sidewalls.
We've tested the 45 mm G-One RX with black sidewalls and will compare it to the 40 mm G-One RX with transparent sidewalls, as well as a selection of similar 40/45 mm gravel bike tires.

The CX/Gravel section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width. All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs. Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load. |

Conclusion
- Schwalbe G-One RX Pro 45
(100% is fastest - lightest - highest - strongest)
The 45 mm version of the Schwalbe G-One RX performs slightly less than the 40 mm version (read our review) in almost all of our tests. Only the knob height in the center of the tire is a bit better on the 45 mm version. The differences are minor, and with only two samples tested, it's challenging to draw a definitive conclusion, as there will always be some margin of error in the tests and manufacturing tolerances.
We consider the hard surface wet grip to be the most significant shortcoming, and it is even lower than that of the 40 mm version. The tread pattern simply isn't designed to offer grip on hard surfaces due to the reduced contact patch and inherent flexing of the large tread blocks required to grip well on soft surfaces. If you ride a lot on hard surfaces, that might be a factor to consider in your trade-off chart.
Still, the G-One RX is a strong performer in its class, and it's a tire you can't go wrong with if you need this level of off-road performance.
