Continental Dubnital Race Rapid road bike tire on a rolling resistance test machine

The Dubnital is a new mountain bike tire from Continental, available in several versions that differ in casing, compound, color, and size. We have already tested the Dubnital Race Rapid in the 29x2.4 size with black sidewalls. This time, we're going to take a look at the 29x2.2 size with the same casing, compound, and sidewall color, allowing us to compare these sizes on equal ground.

We'll keep this article brief, but our test results below provide all the necessary details. For more information about the Dubnital and Continental's other new tires that replace the Race King, Cross King, and Mountain King, please refer to our original review of the 29x2.4 Dubnital, which offers a more comprehensive introduction.

Something worth mentioning here is that the Dubnital 29x2.2 isn't available in as many different versions as the 29x2.4 size: it's only available with the Rapid Compound, either in the Race or Trail casing. There are also no transparent sidewall versions; only black sidewalls are available. That makes sense as we expect most people looking for the 2.2 size don't need the Grip compound and want maximum speed.

Let's jump over to the test results to find out how the Dubnital Race Rapid 29x2.2 compares to the Dubnitial Race Rapid 29x2.4.

The MTB section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width.

All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs.

Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load.

The 29x2.2 Continental Dubnital performs just as strongly as the 29x2.4 size (read our review). It's a bit lighter than the larger versions, and it rolls just a hair faster than the 29x2.4 size. We hoped the 29x2.2 Dubnital would roll a bit faster, as we still see that rolling resistance has increased over the old Race King Protection.

However, the overall performance of the Dubnital is simply outstanding. Even when compared to competing tires from top manufacturers, you can't go wrong with the Dubnital Race Rapid, unless you require the absolute fastest rolling tires.

The 29x2.2 is a good choice when you ride a lot on paved or other hard surfaces and don't need the larger volume that the 29x2.4 size provides.
