The Schwalbe Rocket Ron has become a classic, and since our first test of the Rocket Ron with LiteSkin casing and PaceStar compound in 2015, several iterations have passed through our tests. We even tested the Rocket Ron Super Race Addix Speed 29x2.35 in 2024, so today's test is a retest with a new 2026 sample to see if the Rocket Ron is still a winner today.

The Rocket Ron is the type of mountain bike tire you can recommend to nearly anyone, thanks to its low rolling resistance and all-around tread pattern. If people could pick only one tire for a full season of riding, we're sure the Rocket Ron would come out on top for many riders. We expect this is also the reason why the Rocket Ron is still available in the smaller 20", 24", and 26" sizes, as those sizes are most often used by beginners who need a fast, predictable tire.

It does look like Schwalbe has been cutting the number of available sizes since 2024, as both the 29x2.10 and 29x2.35 sizes have been removed from their website and the 29x2.25 size is now the only available 29" size. At the time of writing this review, the 29x2.35 size was still available at some retailers, and if you're interested in the 29x2.35 size, we recommend buying it quickly

The MTB section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width. All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs. Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load.

Conclusion

Our 2026 29x2.35 sample of the Schwalbe Rocket Ron Super Race Addix Speed is a bit heavier than our 2024 sample, and rolling resistance is also slightly higher (about +1 to +6% depending on air pressure). The most notable differences show up in both the wet grip and sidewall puncture tests: the new sample scores slightly better in the wet grip test (+6%) but a lower in the sidewall puncture test (-19%).

Although the Rocket Ron shows its age when compared to the latest and greatest mountain bike tires in the 29x2.35 / 29x2.40 sizes, it's still a very competitive tire overall. When it comes to the 20", 24", and even 26" tire sizes, the Schwalbe Rocket Ron Super Race Addix Speed is still the most performant tire you can buy today.
