(100% is best)
This is a test of the Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed TLR 29 WR on different wheels than our standard test wheels. The "standard" test results for the Corsa Pro Speed TLR 29 WR are available here.
The 29 mm Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed TLR Wide Rim (WR) is designed for use on modern wide rims for maximum aerodynamic performance. If you have been following our website for a while, you know that Vittoria's Corsa Speed TLR has been the fastest road bike tire since its 2016 release, and the Pro version has built on that in 2024.
The 29 mm WR version is new, and the Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed TLR is now available in 24, 26, 28, and 29 mm sizes. We tested the 28 mm version in 2024 (read our review), and with a rolling resistance of less than 6 watts at the highest air pressures, it will be challenging for competitors to bring a faster tire to market.
In terms of materials, there is no difference between the 24, 26, 28, and 29 mm versions of the Corsa Pro Speed TLR; they all use the 320 TPI cotton corespun casing and Vittoria's Race Formulation Graphene + Silica compound. The difference lies in the casing dimensions and tread width; the 29 mm WR version has a narrower casing and a wider tread than the "standard" 28 mm version.
For testing road bike tires, we typically use an 18 mm rim for rolling resistance and sizing measurements, and a 19 mm rim for the grip tests. Since the Corsa Pro Speed WR is optimized for wider rims (Vittoria specifies 25 mm), we also tested this tire with a 22 mm rim for rolling resistance tests and sizing measurements, and a 23 mm rim for grip tests. Based on these additional results and our findings from The Rim Width Test, we can estimate what the results would be on different rim widths.
If you want more information about the Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed, we refer you to our original test of the 28 mm version (read our review), where we delve deeper into the improvements compared to the older non-Pro Corsa Speed.

All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs. Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load. |

Conclusion
- Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed TLR WR (on 22/23 mm rims) 29
(100% is best)
With the Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed TLR 29 WR mounted on our 22 mm test wheel, we see the tire comes a lot closer to the specified 29 mm width. When we extrapolate the test results from the 18 mm rim, the Corsa Pro Speed 29 WR should be very close to 30.0 mm at the maximum air pressure and very close to 29.0 mm at the lower end of the air pressure range when mounted on the recommended 25 mm rim width.
The rolling resistance is slightly higher on the wider 22 mm rim, which aligns with our test results from The Rim Width Test. The true advantage of the wider wheels lies in the improved aerodynamics that come from matching wheels and tires. We don't test tire aerodynamic performance, so we can't comment on this further.
New data from the grip tests shows slightly lower edge grip with the tire mounted on the wider rim. We expect this to be due to the more V-shaped tire profile on the smaller rim, which provides a larger contact patch at the lean angle used in the edge grip test.
