- Tufo Gravel Swampero 44
(100% is best)

If you're looking for a gravel bike tire to get you through more challenging conditions or year-round usage, the Tufo Swampero might be what you're looking for. We have already tested the 40 mm version of the Swampero (read our review) and found it to be one of the best-performing gravel bike tires in terms of overall performance. With the move towards bigger gravel bike tires, we're now going to take a look at the 44 mm version of the Gravel Swampero.
We've now tested several of Tufo's gravel bike tires (Thundero, Thundero HD, Speedero, Swampero), and they all perform remarkably well in our tests, making them the top pick for most conditions. The lineup also covers most gravel bike conditions with just three tires (six when counting the reinforced HD casings), which is also a good thing in our mind. This allows you to buy one of each type and easily change the front and rear per season for optimal performance.
Like the Gravel Thundero and Speedero, all sizes (and HD versions) of the Swampero are available with either full-black or black-with-beige sidewalls. We've tested the 44-622 version with black sidewalls, which is identical to the 40-622 version we tested three years ago, making for an easy comparison.

The CX/Gravel section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width. All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs. Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load. |

Conclusion
- Tufo Gravel Swampero 44
(100% is fastest - lightest - highest - strongest)
Our 44 mm sample of the Tufo Gravel Swampero performs nearly the same as the 40 mm sample (read our review) we tested back in 2022. There are some subtle differences here and there, as the 44 mm version performs slightly better in the puncture tests, while the 40 mm version performs somewhat better in the wet grip tests. We can't conclude anything about this as the differences all fall within the margin of error of the tests and the manufacturing tolerances.
The Gravel Swampero still looks as strong today as it did in 2022. This tire should serve you well and may be the best set-and-forget gravel bike tire out there.
