Continental Dubnital Race Rapid 2.00 / 50 road bike tire on a rolling resistance test machine

The Dubnital is a new mountain bike tire from Continental, available in several versions that differ in casing, compound, color, and size. We have already tested the Dubnital Race Rapid in the 29x2.2 and 29x2.4 sizes. This time, we're going to take a look at the 29x2.0 size, which was recently added to the lineup and draws special attention from gravel bikers looking for high-volume 29x2.0/50-622 off-road tires.

While the 29x2.2 and 29x2.4 sizes are available in either the Race or Trail casing and the Rapid or Grip compound, the 29x2.0 is only available in the fast Race Rapid option, which makes sense to us. We expect this tire to become a popular option for fast XC mountain bikers and gravel bikers looking for a do-it-all tire that can handle the worst gravel bike conditions.

Our website is divided into sections (Road Bike, MTB, CX/Gravel, Tour), and the CX/Gravel section covers tires in the 33-50 mm size range. We're going to compare the Dubnital Race Rapid 29x2.0 to 45-50 mm gravel bike tires. If you're more interested in comparing the 29x2.0 Dubnital to the 29x2.2 and 29x2.4 sizes, you can do so in Pro View, where you can compare all 471 tires tested to date in a single overview (Pro-tip: select Rolling Resistance AAP in the graphical overview).

We've tested the 29x2.00 / 50-622 Dubnital Race Rapid. In this review, we're going to compare it to its main competitors: Continental Terra Hardpack 50 (read our review), Schwalbe G-One R Pro (read our review), Schwalbe G-One RX Pro (read our review), and a selection of comparable tires from other manufacturers.

The CX/Gravel section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width.

All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs.

Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load.

When we compare the small 29x2.00 / 50-622 Dubnital Race Rapid to the best gravel bike tires with a similar knob height, we see amazing performance in our tests. If you're looking for a high-volume do-it-all gravel bike tire with big knobs (for gravel bike tires), the Dubnital Race Rapid is the tire to have. Even when we compare it to the recently released Continental Terra Competition Race Rapid in the 45 mm size (read our review), you're not losing all that much in rolling resistance (3-4 watts per tire).

Even a (hypothetical) 29x1.8/45-622 Dubnital Race Rapid would be a nice-to-have tire for gravel bikers that prefer slightly smaller and lighter tires. With gravel bike tires getting bigger and bigger, we're wondering if merging gravel bike and XC mountain bike tires and making them available in 5 mm increments (40-45-50-55-60) would result in better tires.
