The Schwalbe Durano DD (Double Defense) is a road bike tire optimized towards protection and durability. As the Double Defense part of the name suggests, the Durano DD has both a RaceGuard anti-puncture strip under the tread as well as an extra layer of fabric that runs from bead to bead. Together, these layers should give the Durano DD an above-average puncture resistance as most other performance tires only come with a single layer of reinforcement.
Just like nearly all other Schwalbe tires, the Durano DD now comes with the Schwalbe Addix compound. It looks like the Durano uses the simplest version of the Addix compound as Schwalbe doesn't give any detailed information about the compound as they do for their more expensive tires. The casing appears to be the same as it's still specified as a 67 TPI casing that's quite common on Schwalbe's mid-range tires.
The Durano DD is available in both a folding bead and a cheaper wire bead version. We'll focus on the folding version here which is available in the 23-622, 25-622, and 28-622 wide versions. This is a test of the 25-622 folding version of the Durano DD with Addix compound.

The Road Bike section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width. All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs. Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load. |

Conclusion
- Schwalbe Durano DD Addix 25
(100% is best)
We're surprised by the very high rolling resistance of the Durano DD as rolling resistance is even higher than the much heavier Durano Plus Addix (read our review) version which we also tested. Puncture resistance of the sidewall is above average but doesn't impress us. Puncture resistance of the tread is much lower than we expected from a tire marked with "double defense".
All in all, we can't recommend this tire as it just doesn't stand out from the crowd when looking at our test results. As always, we recommend to take a look at our road bike overview page and use the filters to find a better performing tire.
